Success for our young entrepreneurs in the Young Trader Competition local heat in Bury St Edmunds

After the incredibly successful local heat in Bury St Edmunds last week, entrepreneurs aged between 16 to 30 have another opportunity to participate again in the National Market Traders Federation (NMTF) Young Trader Competition local heat in Newmarket on 13 July 2024.

Traders came from Haverhill, Ely, Cambridge and Ipswich to compete in the local heat in Bury St Edmunds, and were scored by a team of local judges on their products, customer service skills, professionalism and how they interact with other market traders. 

West Suffolk Council spokesperson said: “The NMTF Young Trader competition is a terrific opportunity for entrepreneurs to showcase their creativity, skills and talents whilst growing their businesses and networking with likeminded individuals. Each participant has worked exceptionally hard, and we are looking forward to seeing our talented young traders flourish at the local heat in Newmarket following the success of the heat in Bury St Edmunds!”

The young traders who won their category in the local heats are:

•  Overall winner: Kathryn Woor from Duck Egg Designs
•  Arts and Crafts: Anna Joan Sutton from Anna Jone’s Art
•  General Retail: Alyss Humprys from Moody Cow Crafts
•  Food and Drink: Perry Runswick from Bad Boi Burritos
•  Grocery: Georgina Crouchman from Gee Gee’s

The following traders achieved highly commended awards in the local heat:

•  Arts and Crafts: Jack Williams from Zealous Alchemy
•  Arts and Crafts: Joanne Fernando from JS Jewellery Crafts
•  General Retail: Sophie Aris from Handmade Galore
•  General Retail: Michael Hussein from Anubis Woodcraft
•  Food and Drink: James Larder from Roasters Coffee Ltd
•  Grocery: Amanda Hodgett from Meadow and Woodland Livestock

The Young Trader Competition local heat in Newmarket will be held on Saturday 13 July 2024 from 9am until 3pm.

The winners from each local heat will then progress to the regional heat in Bury St Edmunds on 31 July then head to the national final in Stratford-upon-Avon to compete over the August bank holiday weekend.

The NMTF Young Traders Market is a national campaign to encourage young people to trade at local markets. West Suffolk Council supports the event by supplying tables and gazebos, as well as covering insurance costs.
