On Thursday 13 June, Year 10 students at Sybil Andrews Academy had the unique opportunity to engage with Jess, the Healthy Homes Advisor at West Suffolk Council, as part of their work experience programme.

During the visit, Jess engaged with the students through interactive discussions and hands-on activities. Students learnt about the benefits of retrofitting such as improving the energy efficiency of homes, reducing fuel bills and installing low carbon technology, all having an impact on climate change. The students were given a project management task to design a retrofit project for three separate case studies with a budget. The experience not only provided practical knowledge but also helped pupils identify potential career paths aligned with their interests and skills.

Alexandra Dias, Careers Advisor at Sybil Andrews Academy, said: “The session was well received and the students produced excellent work due to the creative ideas that Jess introduced to them and her delivery of the project. On behalf of our Year 10 students and careers team, we would like to say a tremendous thank you for such an exciting and informative day!”

The success of this event underscores the value of community partnerships in enhancing educational experiences, and teaching future generations about environmental resilience. West Suffolk Council looks forward to continuing its collaboration with schools and other local organisations to provide meaningful and impactful learning opportunities.
