The 80th anniversary of D-Day will be commemorated as part of an annual Sci-Fi and Action exhibition which opens at Moyse’s Hall Museum tomorrow.

This year, the exhibition in Bury St Edmunds will be celebrating iconic anniversaries with a collection of original costumes, props, and memorabilia from legendary sci-fi films and TV franchises.

Costumes and props from Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, Monuments Men and more will feature as part of a section dedicated to the anniversary of D-Day.

Comic book and film fans will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of Wolverine. The exhibition will display some of the origins of the character who made his comic book debut in 1974 and more recently on screen in the global hit Deadpool and Wolverine.

And there’s plenty for sci-fi fans with items from Star Wars, Terminator 2, Buck Rogers, and more, while Star Wars cosplay fan club Vader Raiders will have their Droid Factory on display.

Families visiting this half term and throughout the exhibition will also be able to take part in special trails and quizzes.

Cllr Ian Shipp, Cabinet Member for Leisure at West Suffolk Council which runs the museum, said: “It’s the start of the school half term but families don’t have to travel far to enjoy a great exhibition on their doorstep.

“The Sci-Fi and Action exhibition offers plenty for families and people of all ages to come along and enjoy.

“And you don’t have to be particular franchise fan to enjoy the exhibition which will have lots of unique and fascinating items on display.

“Even better still, snap up one of our annual heritage ticket and not only will you be able to return to enjoy the Sci-Fi and Action exhibition at no extra cost, you will also get access to all of Moyse’s exhibitions throughout the year and to West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village and many of its programmed events.

“This is just one of the ways that West Suffolk invests in leisure and culture to help our communities thrive.”

The exhibition runs to Sunday 26 January 2025.  Admission costs £5 for adults, £3 for young people aged six to 16, £4.50 for concessions while under five get in for free but must be accompanied by an adult.
