Free compost giveaway at Brandon Country Park to support greener gardening
14 Apr 2025

West Suffolk Council is inviting residents to take advantage of a free compost giveaway at Brandon Country Park on Wednesday 7 May 2025, from midday until 3pm.
The compost is produced from garden waste collected by West Suffolk Council’s bin crews in and around Red Lodge.
Each year, composting prevents approximately 12,000 tonnes of organic waste from ending up in landfill, transforming it into a valuable, nutrient-rich soil conditioner that supports healthy plant growth.
Cllr Dave Taylor, Cabinet Member for Operations at West Suffolk Council, said: “We are delighted to offer free compost to our community as a way of giving back to residents who participate in our garden waste collection service. Composting not only reduces waste but also enhances soil health, supports sustainable gardening and conserves natural resources. By using compost, individuals can play a vital role in building a more sustainable and resilient future.”
The free compost will be available while stocks last from midday at Brandon Country Park, near the visitor centre. Residents are encouraged to bring their own shovel and bags to collect the compost.
In addition to the compost giveaway, staff and compost volunteers will be available to offer advice on general waste management, recycling and home composting techniques.
